Xmas Postcard Exchange 2009

Sun Nov 8, 2009, 1:05 PM
I ain't dead!! Hurrah!! How could I be when I have the Xmas Postcard Exchange 2009 to organise! :) I'm going to stick with last year's guidelines as they worked out pretty well.

The Challenge:
I challenge all comers to design and produce their own postcard(s)! You heard of ATCs? Well, we'll be making ATPs (Artist Trading Postcards)! ;) You can sign up for as many trades as you want, but remember that you may not get the same number of cards back. I will try to divvy up the extras as fairly as possible, so really, the more people send more than one card, the more people will GET more than one card.

The Rules:
- Once you sign up, you are committed. Please do not drop your half of a trade!
- The deadline for sign-up is SUNDAY, 8 NOVEMBER 2009.
- You will receive your assignment by SATURDAY, 14 NOVEMBER 2009. You will then have until SATURDAY, 5 DECEMBER 2009 to send out your postcard(s). This may seem excessively early, but in my experience this is the only way to beat the holiday rush! Remember, your postcard(s) may have to make it aaaaall the way across the Atlantic before Xmas!

The Guidelines:
- The postcard(s) can be any size, but check with your local Post Office for specifications (eg. US - [link] and UK - [link] ).
- The postcards can be handdrawn or printed out from a computer-based art program, whatever - as long as it is your own original work! I suggest that if you intend to send out more than one, a computer image may be easier to manage in the time available.
- We are operating on a "Box-of-Chocolates" theme - that is anything festive goes! :) Half the fun of a surprise is not knowing what you will get (as Forest Gump pointed out).
- If you choose to cover your art to protect it (this might be a good idea for any medium that would run if it got wet like inkjet prints), please DO NOT use packing tape. Packing tape yellows as it ages and would do more damage in the long run than the clear adhesive cover one uses to cover textbooks for instance. On that vein, DO NOT cover the back (writing side) of your postcard. The Post Office may refuse to accept your mail if they cannot inkstamp it.
- Remember to write a festive message on the back and to leave plenty of space for the address and stamps. Best idea would be to split it down the middle and use one side for the admin stuff and the other side for the fun stuff! :)
- Your postcard will cost roughly US$0.94 / £0.42 to send.

With all that said, give a shout-out here so we all know who is in, and then send an email to bluenadir at gmail dot com to confirm your place. I will need your postal address and how many postcards you are willing to trade. Everyone is welcome to join in, so feel free to direct your friends here too! Hope to see you all on my list.

**EDIT:**
Whups! I forgot that I won't be around next weekend! Silly me! For that reason, sign-ups are extended to next Sunday, 15 NOVEMBER 2009. Please do already start on your designs - I will send the assignments out as soon as possible after the weekend. We have about 5-6 sign-ups right now, but we could always use more! :) Please spread the idea around so we can have a nice big exchange.

Xmas Postcard Exchange 2008 - Last Call

Tue Oct 28, 2008, 12:17 PM
Last call for interested parties to:
a) join up the exchange, and/or
b) send me (bluenadir at gmail dot com) their addresses and number of cards they want to do.

I will accept people up to 31 OCTOBER 2008. Given that I've thus far listed only 5 participants (which includes myself), could I enquire if everybody would be okay with making postcards for everybody else? Get back to me on that one! In any event, I'll make sure that everyone gets the same number of cards back that they commit. :)

Rules are here --> [link]
